Fay Away
8/25/2008

Well, the big storm has come and gone. Although the entire state of Florida was covered by the storm, some places were harder hit than others. The Mogan Man was out in Texas for another leg in the FLW Redfish Series but he did not miss out on meeting Fay.

Survivors of Tropical Storm Fay chime in on the AF Forum this week. The storm made her presence felt all last week as she zigzagged from the southwest shores Florida to the Space Coast and then back to the west to hit the Panhandle. The storm dumped 20-30 inches of rain in some parts of Florida. Capt. Blair missed all the fun while he was in Texas but he drove through the storm on his way home. He met Fay head-on as he traveled down I-10 in northern Florida and managed to make it home in one piece. Mrs. Moganman says their home in Cocoa had no flooding problems but neighborhoods around them did not fair so well.

The FLW Redfish Series rolled into Rockport, TX last week. Even though the Mogan Man (finished 15th) was not in the Top 5, there were some familiar faces making a start on Day 3. The father and son team of Darrell & Robert Walter first made their appearance on the podium at this event back in 2005, fishing in 2nd place. This time around, the fish would not fall in their favor as they finished out the day in 5th place. Brothers, Kris & Jonathan Culpepper are no strangers to having the camera crew on their boat on Day 3. They won in Rockport last year but could not advance pass 4th place this time around. Paul Heffernan & David Green have been fishing the FLW Redfish Series since the beginning but this would be their first time making it into the Top 5. They led the field going into the final day of competition but found the honey hole had dried up when it was over run by local traffic. Heffernan & Green finished this round in 3rd place. Rockport natives Todd Adams and Tommy Ramzinsky won this event in 2006 and started Day 3 in 3rd place. They had a nearly perfect day and hauled in a whopping 17-pound stringer but it was only enough to move them into 2nd place. Last year in Rockport, the team of Skipper Mock and Eddie Curry almost walked away with the titles but were bumped out of the lead by 3-ounces. They began Day 3 in 2nd place but had a rough time getting started. Timing is everything and as they were about to move to another location, a large school of reds came to them. If they would have moved any sooner, they would have missed out on the school that landed the team $35,000! Stay tuned for more info on when you’ll be able to watch all the excitement on FSN.
