It was just at the end of summer and I had been fishing the flats hunting for the snookies. I had put in at about 6:30am and I began to run the tides and started with a low tide. As I started to hit my spots the weather was not acting so great and became very windy and was very had to keep my postion on the flat that I had been picking apart with absolutely no luck. I poled up to shallow water and right up on a sand bar, I got out of the boat and waded over to the edge and began fishing it with no luck there headed back to the boat. As I got up to the boat I noticed there was a silver dollar size blue crab hand on to my transducer wow!! I got really excited because the tide was starting to come up and decided to take a gamble. I headed to a place that I like to call Location X. If I couldn't hunt down those snook I was for sure going to get a redfish. As I started my drift in to my spot I looked up and there they were, just four big beautiful blue tails just a flappin in the wind. Now if that blue crab wasn't a sign then I don't know what was. As I crept up to these fish very quietly I got one cast at them, bloomp! The crab hit the water, lighting struck and the thunder rolled and the crab was being eaten right in front of me! The line got tight and here we were again man vs fish. This fish made a big run towards some mangroves and tried to get up on a oyster bar but that courtland braid was no match for this bull! Pulled her up along side of the boat and got my hand on her. Never give up and fish as hard as you can and pay attention to everything around you and your surroundings. There she is, a big beautiful red caught on the Mogan Combo! |

Big Manatee River tarpon! Hooked him while I was on a dock snook fishing and he started taking all the line off my pole. I had my buddy throw me a boogie board and he went to dragging me to the middle of the river. An hour into the fight a boat was driving by, and I yelled for help. They came over to get me and we got it into the boat. We took it back to the dock and there was twenty people waiting to see if I had caught it! This was taken right by Emerson Point - I'm in the middle of this photo. |
